Hike with an infant

Presently in Scottsdale with a 15 month old. Looking for an easy paved hike with scenery close to Scottsdale. Maybe 2-3 mile hike. We did the Javalina bike trail and something similar to that would be ideal. Any suggestions.

It's hard to find a hiking trail that is paved. Most are very well maintained, just not paved. I'm thinking you are using a stroller for your little one.

Papago Park has a trail that is whellchair accessible and paved.

Although there are no sceneic outlooks the greenbelt through Scottsdale would be nice. You can go through McCormick Ranch by the lake or Chaparral Park and feed the ducks on its lake. I think they'll even let kids rent fishing poles.

What a great time of year to be out enjoying!

Its not exactly close to scottsdale but the desert botanical gardens are great. Its going to start getting real hot soon so do it in the early am or late evening.

The Judith Tunnell trail at the South Mountain Park Environmental Education Center is paved, but it's only a mile.

Papago Park has an asphalt trail on the opposite side of Galvin Parkway from the zoo, and there are sidewalks along the canal that go quite a ways, accessible from Canal Park or Papago Park.

There are sidewalks all the way around Tempe Town Lake.

Just want to correct a previous poster, the trails around Tempe Town Lake are NOT paved all the way around, and it can get rough in several spots. It is a nice concrete/paved path from the new Tempe Art Center down to past the Rural Rd bridge on the South side, and there are stretches on the North side that are also paved (basically from Mill Ave to Curry and beyond, into the Scottsdale Greenbelt).

I echo the comments about the Scottsdale Greenbelt, that would be a fantastic place to walk. It can get very busy though.

A Mountain in Tempe is paved up to about the 3/4 level. It is very steep, and there is an outlook around that point. Beyond that it gets even more steep with kind of steps (railroad ties) to the top.

The trail around Papago Park/zoo/Botanical Gardens is nice also. You can go from the entrance on Galvin, up to McDowell, over to the canal in Scottsdale, and back down through the park.

If you want to really get out an hike, you may want to think about getting one of those backpack things to put the little one in.

Oops, sorry about the misinformation on Tempe Town Lake. Haven't actually walked all the way around yet - but it's on my short list!
