The Scottsdale Street Fair

Is the weekly Sunday Scottsdale Street Fair the 'real deal', i.e., are the vendors local artisans or is this more mass-produced tourist fare? Do you think visiting this Street Fair is time well spent when we only have a couple of days in the area? Thank you.

You may be talking about the Artisan Market, which is an urban marketplace on Sundays from 10 to 4. It features food, fresh produce, fine arts and crafts, entertainment, kids crafts and more. It is held at what is called the Scottsdale Waterfront at Scottsdale Road and Camelback. To the west of Scottsdale Road there is an area of public art along a canal, and that is where the Market is held.

Also on various Sundays from noon to 4 in Feb., March and April, there are free concerts by local artists on the Scottsdale Mall, which is just a bit to the south and east of the Market. Concerts will be Feb. 10 and 24, March 3, 17 and 31 and April 7. Arts and crafts will be for sale, and there are loads of public art in the mall and surrounding area of Old Town and Downtown.

Thank you.

The location to which you refer -- the 'Scottsdale Waterfront' -- is that the same as 'The Pavilions at Talking Stick'? [That was the location noted in Trip Advisor.]

And how would you rate the arts & crafts?

Talking Stick is a casino/resort on the reservation that abuts Scottsdale. Was not aware of that type of event there, but they are trying to build patronage. The "Waterfront" is a few miles south and east of Talking Stick.

I have not seen what is available so I will not attempt to make a judgement.

The Pavilions is a large outdoor shopping center on the eastern edge of Scottsdale on the Indian reservation (i.e. Talking Stick). I have never been to their event to be honest so i did not comment on your question. (abigguy, it's the Target/Home Depot shopping center on Pima at Indian Bend :)

Take a look at A Sunday Affair at Scottsdale Center for the Arts, it is mostly outdoor concert (free) and some food and arts/crafts vendors. Nicely done, beautiful setting at the civic mall with public art, gardens, fountains...schedule is on their website above.

At the same venue in March if you are here is the annual Scottsdale Arts Festival which is a full on art fair with countless artists/vendors selling one of a kind art pieces, a great way to spend a day.

Also look at the Celebration of Fine Art and watch the actual artists create their pieces throughout the months of the festival. I love it every time i go and highly recommend it. http://www.celebrateart.com/

All of these are the "real deal" and what make Scottsdale a special art destination this time of year.

The Scottsdale Street Fair at the Pavilions at Talking Stick has gone from an every Sunday event to twice a month, both Saturday and Sunday. The next one is February 23rd and 24th. There is a sound stage with live entertainment, food, and a mixture of artisan vendors, artists, crafters, fresh local produce, and baked goods. There is also a kids fun zone with bouncers and zorbs. You should come by the Street Fair, you'll enjoy yourself.
