Outdoor Activities in Late November/Early December?

This may be a stupid question but this will be our first time traveling to Arizona (coming from Michigan). I see there are tour companies to rent quads, and whitewater rafting. Is that stuff possible to do that time of year with the weather? Or are there any outdoor activities you reccomend or suggest to avoid that time of year?

You've posted in the Scottsdale forum. Is that where you will be? For how long?

Yes we were thinking of staying at the Talking Stick from November 27th - December 1st. It's our anniversary and were looking for activities to do outdoors. We were going to do the pink jeep tour to the Grand Canyon for 1 day. Any suggestions would be great!

I'll let the local experts give you advice about what do do locally. White water rafting is probably out. That's a spring summer activity for the most part.

Pink Jeep does an excellent tour. It's a long day, but if you've never been to the Grand Canyon before its worth going. They'll take you through Sedona on the way. This will give you a taste and inspiration for a longer return trip to AZ.

The GCNP day trip by PJ is a long day with much driving...great countryside but a lot of drive time. You might just consider a day trip to Sedona...drive yourself and take their local tour over the red rocks, or take just their Sedona tour that includes the jeep tour from Scottsdale.

This is a great link to local hiking www.scottsdaleaz.gov/trails, look at Major Trails link. The Desert Botanical Gardens is excellent. Scottsdale has some great bike trails as well, horseback riding and there is always golf!

Tradewinds St. Beach Florida would have been good . If you didn't take a trip and you are still wanting to take a family trip check it out.

In addition to the Desert Botanical Garden, you might like the Musical Instrument Museum. It is a short drive on the 101 from Talking Stick to Tatum Blvd. It is indoors, but it has tremendous exhibits from around the world on muscial istruments, and you get an audio device to hear what each instrument sounds like.

You might also enjoy a stroll in Old Town/Downtown Scottsdale. There are loads of shops, art galleries and cafes. It is a compact area, and there is free 3-hour parking.
