Need advice

We are looking for a really nice resort with great grounds, nice pool, and a view. But we also want to be able to walk to shops and restaurants.

Recommendations?

Also, is there a specific area with quaint shops, maybe some history.

A beautiful Scottsdale resort that is walkable to shops and restaurants is The Westin Kierland. It is adjacent to Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter. There's even a shuttle. You will have mountain views. There are several other fine resorts that are short drives to them.

Another to consider is Firesky. You can walk to the Scottsdale Waterfront for numerous restaurants or farther south to Old Town and downtown for even more. That's where you will find many lovely shops, art galleries, and a bit of our history. There is a free trolley that can get you from place to place.

Be aware that the Westin Kierland is actually in Phoenix, not Scottsdale, and that the adjacent shopping is of the suburban chain variety, i.e. you aren't going to find much that you wouldn't encounter in Indiana. It is a nice resort though. I don't know much about Firesky but the Old Town/downtown shops nearby are more unique to the area. It all depends upon what you are looking for.

Suggest you consider the Gainey Suites in Scottsdale. We are heading there on 9/3 for a three day getaway. All traveler reviews on TripAdvisor give it great accolades for accommodations, free full breakfast and happy hour everyday. Also, it is within walking distance to the Gainey Shops and restaurants next door to the resort. Check it out. We are looking forward to experiencing the great hospitality that has been reported.

The need to be able to walk outside the resort is a somewhat limiting condition. From what I understand, Tempe Palms would also meet your needs.

Great place but don't count on being able to walk to much from there.

The Sanctuary is a great property. Really nice views and excellent local vibe. It's a special boutique property with just the right kind of service. You will feel special staying there. The restaurant is very good. We often go there for special occasions.

LadyLinda - it's best to start your own thread, as oppose to tagging on someone else's, otherwise it can get confusing. You'll get more responses that way. It also helps if you give us as much info as possible - what are your interests, what time of year will you be here, your budget, etc.
