One week in Sedona in June

We will be in Sedona for a week in June. So far, I am looking into to doing the trolley the first day to get a feel for Sedona. We want to to do the Camp Verde Railroad ride one day. Also, Slide rock Park. Also, we want to drive to the Grand Canyon and spend a day there. Is all this do able? Any other suggestions for an itinerary? This is our first visit to Sedona and I am getting over whelmed as to what we should try to do. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Everything you list is doable. One week is an ideal amount of time for Sedona. I'd encourage you to do a jeep tour in addition to the trolley tour(s). I'd also encourage you to consider an overnight stay at the GCNP.

Hiking from easy to difficult.

Jerome.

American Indian ruins and rock art.

Grand Canyon is an easy day trip.

all kinds of beautiful scenery viewable from your car.

As RR said, let us know more of your interests and we can steer you in the right direction. There is more than a week's worth to see and do, so you can't fit it all in. That's why we keep coming back.

I will agree with RR in that one week is the "right" amount of time and IF you can get accommodation IN GCNP, especially at El Tovar (I would get right on that as this will be the most difficult thing to "bag"), I would spend one night there. If you cannot secure accommodation IN the park, then a day trip from the Sedona/Verde Valley area is very doable. Contrary to what CT may have said, I will humbly disagree that it is an "easy" day. It would typically envolve getting up before sunrise, having a quick breakfast, packing a lunch and heading out at sunrise only to return after dark. It has been done by many of our guests, but quite honestly, if it were me, I would prefer to spend the night IN the park.

Doing a Jeep tour would be a good idea unless you have bad bones or a bad back.

Doing the trolley is a great idea.

The train is actually the Verde Canyon Railroad. (FYI) It leave from Clarkdale which is a good 45 minutes from Cottonwood.

A second what CT is recommending. Rememeber that there are many things to do all around the Verde Valley, including all the Indian Ruins, Jerome, State Parks, great hiking and even a casino if that is what you are into.

The others have given you plenty of good suggestions. I'm just writing to try to calm your overwhelming feelings. The main thing is to enjoy the outdoors and scenery here. There are a myriad of ways to do that. Fortunately, only a few of the ways require reservations. So make reservations for the things you know you want to do (as you mentioned in your post) and let the rest happen after you get here. Don't worry about what you should do here or trying to fit everything in. After taking a trolley or jeep tour and the train tour and going to the Grand Canyon, just do the other non-reservation things as the mood moves you once you're here.....things like Indian Ruins, Jerome, hiking, etc.

No matter what you do here, you will undoubtedly have a good time! It is very easy to feel awestruck just driving around Sedona without *doing* anything!

I would like to correct something that I now realize was erroneous.

The Verde Canyon Railroad (which is a great attraction), is probably 45 minutes from SEDONA! (Only 10-15 from Cottonwood!)

I agree with Janss. Don't "program" yourself out with time restraints, trying to make it from this place to that place. Allow yourself to experience Sedona & Grand Canyon. When you get there, you'll be so awestruck with the beauty and will not want to be overly preoccupied with what time you have to be at the next place. As much as practical, just go with the flow.

@cyclelady1 - I can answer half your question. GCNP = Grand Canyon National Park.

GCNP is Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. At 7000 feet above sea level summer temps rarely get much above 80 degrees. There's never a bad time to visit the Grand Canyon NP.
