Does anyone know if the wildfires are effecting the Sedona area in anyway?

Thanks,Kelly

I'm in NH right now but getting daily reports and photos from Sedona.

The fires aren't threatening Sedona in any way. However, the last few days, including yesterday, have found Sedona experiencing heavy smoke in the air. This can affect breathing, especially those with asthma or emphysema or other breathing issues. MrsRedPony reported that it was stinging her eyes at times. And the smoke is clearly evident in the photos that my friends are posting.

However, this all makes for some spectacular sunsets.

The smoke could all end today, or not.

The wind has died down today, so much less haze in Sedona. Conditions all depend on the wind.

We are heading north tomorrow from the valley and will be passing through the area on the highway only. We have been wondering how the situation is also since we will be traveling up 17 right past the exit for Crown King.

We're are also seeing the smoke from the Sunflower fire.

Should be no problem. I just drove from Phoenix to Cottonwood via

that area, and you can see the fire from I-17.

Smoke diminished here yesterday, but as Janss says, it all depends on the wind.

If you plan to travel through the area, you can get updates on road conditions on AZ511.com or call 511. I haven't heard of any disruption of traffic though.

We want to go to Jerome on Tuesday but not if there is a lot of smoke in the air. I'm thinking our best option is to call the Chamber of Commerce before we leave. Any other suggestions?

We could see smoke to the west of us at sunset last night.

How is the smoke in your direction tonight? Not sure we are going tomorrow, looks like the weather may be cooler on Friday.

We dodged a bullet, though - car had problems starting yesterday, took it in today and yes it needed a new battery. Imagine if that had happened in Jerome!

MarianReader, yay for bullet dodges and batteries! I have had a few close calls as well, good time to get everything checked out with the weather ramping up, glad all is well.
