sedona in march

We're thinking of spending 4 nights in Sedona towards the end of March. We picked March, because we thought this might be a quiet time anywhere because it's outside the typical vacation time for most, only to find that for Sedona at least March through June it is prime season. We hate crowds and would go somewhere else entirely, but if people on this forum feel Sedona in March can still be comparatively mellow, we'd give it a shot.

We're mostly interested in doing small hikes and plain old nature and scenery, not in anything New Age, Yoga, Music, or festivals or any such thing.

The only part of Sedona that ever gets crowded is the Uptown business district. That's not where the hiking is. And if it's the only scenery you see while visiting Sedona, you've missed the other 99%.

Hotels in Sedona can accommodate as many as 25K visitors on a given night. A typical night in March spring break season might mean that there are 10K visitors in town. No biggie.

Regardless of the number of people visiting Sedona at any time, it is always quiet. You won't understand until you visit, but trust me when I say this.

March is a transition month weather wise. You could encounter winter weather including snow, or it might be spring time with temperatures in the 80s. No way to predict it until a week or so before hand. All in all, there is never a bad time to visit Sedona. It is always "mellow".

Well stated RedRox!

Sedona is a year-round destination. Not sure why March-June would be considered prime time.

There is absolutely no hiking trail experience that would be considered crowded here. Nature and scenery abound. Read the Top Questions and Itineraries in the right-hand column to get more info.

The reason I like Sedona is the ability to make your visit what you want. I've visited in March, April, May, and June/July and never felt crowded hiking. The end of March will be great for cooler temperatures, but you'll still find 60s and perhaps 70s for highs.

Enjoy your visit.
