Much better. Just stay flexible. Don't worry if you miss something because you're enjoying where you are.

If you do the whole loop around Courthouse Butte, you will also be hiking around Bell Rock. I think it is about 4 1/2 miles, depending on where you start. So you might want a different hike on one of the days.

I would hike Cathedral Rock/Templeton trails on day 1 early hike. You will be able to look over to the Chapel from this hike.

I'm used to 4.5 miles taking about 2 hours. Do you think that will take 3 in the heat and with elevation or even longer? I'm going to be getting up early, but it's still hotter there than I am used to in Seattle (our current high is about 60 LOL).

2.5 is good. Allow 3 if you walk from Canyon Villas, which is what I would do.

One more thought - given that traffic can be bad in and out of the canyon, and we will be there the long 4th of July weekend. I'm now thinking of watching sunrise on bell rock from the hotel patio instead of hiking, doing the west fork of oak creek after breakfast and the jeep tour in the afternoon. Is it too hot in the afternoon to do the Jeep tour? I am kind of thinking of skipping it altogether, but I know it's supposed to be very good and i don't want to miss out on a sedona highlight.

You won't encounter any traffic entering the GC through the east entrance. We have never had more than 2 or 3 cars ahead of us.

I would do the jeep tour in the AM and the shaded West Fork trail in the PM.

You're still not oriented correctly. There will be little to no traffic that will affect you hiking on Bell Rock in the morning. You walk there from your room at Canyon Villas.

West Fork is in Oak Creek Canyon. If you go there in the afternoon you should expect the parking lot to be full and a long slow moving line waiting to get in. The option is to pass the park entrance and drive further up 89A to a place where you can pull off and park SAFELY on the shoulder. Its illegal but it happens. kYou'll see tons of cars that will have already done this. Just make sure that you are completely off the road and be careful of traffic on the blind curves. You'll then pay a walk in fee at the gate.

Afternoons aren't too hot for jeep touring. But if you go up into the canyon in the morning, add time for a traffic jam as you head back to town.

I'm with Mike. I'd do the jeep tour in the morning and West Fork in the afternoon. There's nothing you can change about the dates.

Gotcha, the traffic I was thinking to avoid was driving north to west fork from sedona town in the afternoon. Sounds like I would be exposing myself to more traffic by driving there in the morning. It sounds like traffic is bad in both directions in the afternoon?

The canyon becomes a long bottle neck at busy times with back ups at Slide Rock SP and the biggest back up of them all is getting back into Uptown from the canyon. That can stop cars for 2 miles or more, all the way to Midgley Bridge(ly).
