Bus tour between Sedona and the Grand Canyon National Park? Please tell us a little more about what you think you want to do.

There are day trip tours, mostly in smaller coaches. How are you getting to Sedona? If you have a car it makes more sense to drive to the GC on your own.

There are nice tours from Sedona to GCNP, but all limit your time viewing and enjoying the canyon itself. Drive yourself and be on your own schedule. If you are not driving to Sedona, that will be limiting as well. You have to be able to get around the town and environs to appreciate the scenery.

Thanks so much , we are renting a car but thought maybe in February. It was best to take a tour bus . We don't want to go to IMAX or on helicopter ride, and one of us has a cane so we can't hike as of now

We know that time would be limited bit because of the month and physical restraints we thought this May be the best option. If we drive to the canyon are there busses there that take us to lookout points that are open in February

Grand Canyon National Park is very easy to self-tour. When you enter the park gate, you'll receive a map and a guide to how best utilize the amount of time you have. At the time of your visit, all the park roads are open to private vehicles, so you can pretty much drive to wherever you wish. Even if you were visiting between March 1st and December 1st, when the Hermit's Rest/West Rim Drive is closed to private traffic, folks with handicapped placards are able to drive out there, which I imagine you would have because one of your party has a cane?

That said, I can totally understand the desire to take a break from driving for a day. If you decide to go the route of taking a tour, you have several options. Pink Jeep Tours offers a nice package, and they let you choose where you want to have lunch (most tour operators have a pre-set or box lunch). Great Ventures Tours offers both daytime and sunset tours, with the option to see the IMAX movie or take the helicopter flight, but those are add-ons, you don't have to take them if you don't want to. Any tour you decide on will be an all-day affair.

But at the end of the day, what everyone has said thus far is true: you will have much more freedom and flexibility to determine how much you want to see and do by driving yourself. Most of the viewpoints do not involve much walking from the parking areas. If you take us up on that, be sure to take the "long way" around into the park via Highway 89 through Cameron, then along the East Rim/Desert View Drive (Hwy 64 West). Maybe get an early start so you can have breakfast or an early lunch at the Cameron Trading Post. Once you arrive at Grand Canyon Village, then you can decide if you want to take in the views from the Hermit's Rest Road. Then when you leave the park, take direct route back to Sedona through Flagstaff.

Drive yourselves and self tour. It will be easier to get in and out of your own car, in your own time, at the view points, than it will be to board a bus with a bundle of tourists hustling you along.
