Where to go from drake?

we are currently in Drake and are trying to leave (far too touristy for us!) ....any recommendations of where we can easily get to once we are in Palma? The idea is to chill after our three days in Corcovado and plan our next four weeks in the country (so somewhere with internet) Any ideas?

If Drake Bay is far too touristy either the area has changed a lot since our last visit or you are looking for a spot without any tourist attractions. The boat will take you upriver to Sierpe and from there you can catch a taxi to Palmar Norte and bus connections to the rest of Costa Rica. So other than wanting internet and no tourists, are there any other requirements? Uvita is a relatively short bus ride to the north but it has 10x as many tourists as Drake Bay.

After visiting Drake Bay you may want to spend a couple of nights near Ojochal, Playa Ventana and Tortuga. Then travel to San Gerardo de Dota, a rural community in the highlands or Orosi near Cartago. Less touristy towns.

I would go towards Golfito first, then go to San Vito, maybe stay couple of nights in Perez Zeledon, and also the valley of San Gerardo de Rivas should be well offf the usual touristy itinerary. Any small village in the area of Santa Maria de Dota will also fit your bill. For a bit more elevated number of fellow travellers, then go to Orosi Valley.

Curious, what makes Drake Bay being a very touristy place?

Thank you everyone. We expected drake to be a sleepy town with v few people but it's not what we found. Everyone is selling tours like that's the only thing you can do and the place is buzzing with tourists all going on 15 tours a day...you can't talk to anyone without being offered a tour of some sort...Puerto Jimenez was a lot more chilled...shame we didn't go back there after our Corcovado tour. Mistake. Also, there was a storm overnigt so the road is closed and the only option seems to be a boat which is so expensive.... I think we might have made a bad choice coming here....

It seems like you enjoyed the Puerto Jimenez area better. We did too. Did you go to Bolita, Cabo Matapalo/Carate, did you do the trek to Sirena? I hope it was all amazing.

We didn't find Drake Bay that busy but I agree that many tours are being sold and it is not easy to explore on your own. But did you walk the beach hiking trail? It starts in the village and goes to Playa San Josecito. Great beaches and a jungle river as well. We liked it a lot and didn't see many people. Playa San Josecito gets busy around lunch when the tour boats arrive.

The boat to Sierpe is fun and quite scenic. In 2015 it wasn't that expensive: CRC 7500. You can indeed take a taxi from Sierpe to Palmar Norte but we took the bus.

Didn't you already go to San Gerardo de Dota? I thought you were going to Uvita/Dominical after Sierpe? The Orosi Valley sounds like a good idea. And of course the Caribbean coast as we discussed earlier.
