Williams or Seligman for lunch

We'll be at the Grand Canyon in a little over a week! Yay! We'll be coming from Las Vegas on a Saturday and heading back on Sunday.

Would you recommend stopping in Williams or Seligman for a late lunch? Where would you eat and why?

It's not about quality of food. There are a few places in each town that attempt to capitalize on RT66 nostalgia and memorabilia. Delgadillo's Sno Cap in Seligman is probably the most deserving for charm and entertainment.

Seligman. An R66 icon.

Thanks! Was not sure if making the side trip to Seligman was worth the extra time.

Seligman is definitely worth seeing - and it's not much of a detour. You'll get your kicks out of what they've done there, it's really neat if you've never seen it.

Second the recommendation for Delgadillo's in Seligman. Seligman is definitely a blast from the past, very colorful and kitschy. Forward to the 1:00 mark on this video to see some footage of the town ->: http://youtu.be/L20aUMa4kp0

If you've seen "Cars" (the first one), the storyline was loosely based on the history of Seligman. It would probably add about 1 hour onto your regular trip time at most. You could take R66 all the way from Kingman to Seligman, or just get off I-40 near Williams and backtrack slightly.

Nice stop after Seligamn is the Hackberry General Store.

Owner did an awesome time here fixing it up with RT66 nostoliga .

This stretch of 66 imo one if the best in the USA

Tet by the way, we dodged the flood in NE Pa.

Was told some of the towns that were less fortunate look like a war zone. Low lying areas...Hill City SD and finally home .Alpine Inn on top ot the list for dining....

No worries! The floods back east have done some major damage as have the fires here. We live in a sort of rural area and the field down the street from us caught on fire early Wednesday morning. It's always good to hear about people that are doing okay.

Another question or two, if we decided to drive Route 66 from Seligman to Kingman, about how is the drive? And how good is the road? We will be in a rental.

It's a smooth 65 mph drive. Nothing to do with the old R66 days but as Joe has said, Hackberry makes a great stop. Count on 1 hour extra for this drive with the visit to Hackberry.

Thanks! We may take the drive just to say we've done it.
