2013 Horse Fair

I would like to travel to Ireland during the first week of Oct. I am very interested to see the horse event especially the horse racing or jumbling show. I just wonder if anyone know the event arrangement for this year. On which day there will be a horse show. And I will stay in Galway and do no have much time, can I travel to the event site by public transportation?

Thanks

I would not advocate attending this fair as IMO, there are serious animal welfare concerns.

Yes you can get to Ballinaloe by the bus from Galway.

Not sure where you get the racing and jumping? this is primarily a Sale and Show which has been going on for Centuries.

Ballinasloe Show and the Jumping was on last weekend..

We went to Ballinasloe Horse Fair last year. It was a shock for a couple of reasons. The horse fair is only on Sat & sometimes there is a Mare Sale on Sun. During the week, the town has carnival rides in the evening. It can be quite dangerous moving around the grounds because there are horses EVERYWHERE. We saw some fine looking animals and some very sad sights of animals in bad conditions. We also had a couple of good conversations with prospective sellers.

We enjoyed ourselves, but wouldn't make an extra trip to experience it again.

The races and the National Stud are a different story.

Have fun!
