Conamara Sea Week: 19-29 October, Letterfrack

'A celebration of marine heritage and an exciting blend of music, myth, magic and madness'

The line-up includes:

Ballinakill Active Age Club - Fri. 19th Oct. Entertainment by Letterfrack NS students.

Art Exhibition - 20th – 29th Oct. Conamara Sea Week Small Works Exhibition 2012 – featuring the work of both young and established artists. Official opening Sat. 20th at 8pm National Park.

Music Workshops - Sat. 20th Oct. Letterfrack NS 11.00am – 3.30pm. All ages. Featuring some of Ireland’s finest trad players/teachers. Adults €15; Students €10. Tutors: Tutors – Liz & Yvonne Kane (fiddle - intermediate & advanced); Marie Walsh(box – beginners to advanced); Daire O’Neill (flute/whistle – beginners to advanced); Kelly Gannon (concertina – intermediate & advanced).

Conamara Sea Week Family Fun Day – Sunday 21st Oct. - Kite Flying 1.00pm – Connemara National Park, bring your kite and enjoy the magic of kite flying in the beautiful surroundings of Connemara National Park. Mini Boat Regatta (max size - 20cm’s in length) 2.00pm in the Connemara National Park. Book Fair 3.00pm in the Ellis Hall. Books for all the family. Killary Adventure Challenge 3.30pm - Killary Adventure Centre comes to Letterfrack to set up some interesting challenges for both young people and adults. Penalty Shoot Out 4.00pm – Connemara West Centre. All ages.

Conamara Sea Week Chess Competition - Tues. 23rd Oct. 7.00pm, Letterfrack NS – U12 and U14’s.

After the Light - Wed 24th 7.30pm,Conamara West Centre. Project that will involve the whole community in re-imagining the future.

Conamara Sea Week Darts Competition - Thurs. 25th Oct. Mollys Bar 9.00pm.

The Sea Week Conference - Sat. 27th Oct. Letterfrack NS 10.30am. A unique blend of science, music and poetry exploring the wonders of our marine heritage. This year's theme is "PORTRAIT OF AN ISLAND".

The Monastery Hostel Gig - Sat. 27th Oct. The Monastery Hostel Letterfrack 7.30pm. Featuring rising star Stephen James – singer/song writer who will be joined by Laoise Ní Nuallaín Galway based singer/songwriter. The evening will kick off with two great musicians Conor Keane on Box & Maire Keane on Flute. Candlelit dinner & gig €20.00. Bookings to Stephen on 095 41132.

The Trip to Omey - Sun. 28th Oct. 11.30am We will explore this lovely island. Assemble outside Connemara West Centre, Letterfrack.

Guided Shore Walk Safari - Sun. 28th Oct. 2pm with marine biologist Dave McGrath approx 2 hours. Meet at Glassilaun Beach. No dogs. Free of Charge.

Sean Nós Dance Workshop - Sun 28th Oct. 4pm-5.30pm. Jig, brush, barrel dance with Oireachtas Champion Gearoid Devaney. Adults €10, Student €5. Ellis Hall Letterfrack

Award winning documentary - Sun 28th Oct. 8pm. Airt O’Brian’s ‘A Subtle Movement of Air’- award winning documentary on internationally renowned Co. Clare fiddle player Martin Hayes – AV Centre Connemara National Park. Admission €5. Director Airt O’Brian will be in attendance.

Music Session & CD Launch - Sun. 28th Oct. 9.45pm The Finale will be a special occasion as we launch a new CD ‘The Rights of Man’ by Colm Gannon from Lettermore. Colm will be joined by the great Ringo McDonagh on Bodhran , John Blake on Guitar and Micheal O’Cuaig sean nós singer . A mighty night of music, mussels and madness.

Schools Programme - Vibrant schools programme throughout the week – visiting artists, musicians, performers etc.

Music - the very best of trad music each weekend.
