blackwater bog train

Hi going to Southern Ireland in August and part of the itinery includes a journey on the blackwater bog train. However, after doing some research there seems to be an indication that the train is no longer allowed to carry passengers. Has anyone travelled on the train recently?

Thanks Suzy, it appears last November the local council decided that the train should cease to carry passengers due to health and safety reasons although bookings had already had been taken for 2009 just wasn't sure if these bookings were going to be honoured and thought I'd check with other travellers first.

It'a pity really. i had planned to do it this year but recall reading somewhere that it had ceased.

I know there is also a one in Lullymore, Co Kildare!

If you are interested in train journeys in general then the Railway preservation society of Ireland organizes excursions throughout the year.

The waterford and Suir valley railway might be more enjoyable then Lullymore :-)
