I have an ancestor, Jemima Pointon, who was born in 1852 in Newbridge Willow, Ireland. Can anyone tell me if Newbridge was ever known by that name?

Thank you very much for any ideas.......

You might get more detailed information on a seecialist genealogy site such as Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com, as I think that they host sites for particular locations e.g counties in Ireland and for surnames such as Pointon.

In answer to your query, I have never come across a location called Newbridge Willow in Ireland. There is the well known town in County Kildare called Newbridge which may be the location you are seeking but I have never heard of it being referred to as Newbridge Willow.

Alternatively, your Willow may be a misspelling and the adddress you have might be "Newbridge, Wicklow, Ireland" - there is apparently a small townland called Newbridge, in County Wicklow. It is just south of the village of Avoca.

Good luck with your search.

I checked through the Irish roots website: www.irish-roots.ie and there are a few Pointons in Dublin and West Meath, also worth checking the Griffith Valuations on the above website. Couldn't find a Jemima Pointon though in the birth records.
