Arriving in Nerja tomorrow - help needed

We are staying at the Verano Azul on Calle Cordoba near the town centre. We will have a hire car.

Looking for information on nearby larger supermarkets, and artisan food/wine shops, and restraurant recommendations, including some nice "special occasion" places.

Happy to make to short drives to places of interest, so any suggestions there would be welcome.

We are in our 50's - wife has bad knees, so lots of steps are a problem. Interests are history, eating out and artisan shops, including wine. Not into pub scene.

many thanks in advance

There is a very large supermarket at the El Ingenio Mall.

There is also the Lidl supermarket, on the Frigiliana road, but Nerja has Mercadona, Mas, Supersol - so plenty to choose from.

More restaurants than you can shake a stick at - so maybe just exploring would be your best bet....and see what takes your fancy? Some general ideas might include Bakus, Restaurant 1st, Don Chisciotte, Oliva.......really, the list goes on and on!

A trip to the little village of Maro might be nice. Frigiliana is very pretty - but might be difficult for your wife, as it has steep, cobbled streets in the old town. Further east are Almuñecar and La Herradura. Many people miss out on Malaga, thinking of it as only 'the place where the plane lands'! It has some lovely sights, shops and tapas bars, but the new port area is gorgeous....and flat for walking along!

Enjoy your holiday!

I also enjoy a trip out to Trapiche Farmers Market (on Tuedays). It is a nice run out through the countryside near Velez Malaga. Although it is called a Farmers Market,I would say it is more of a craft market. These type of stalls outnumber the Food/Fruit and Veg stalls. I always found some lovely things on sale to put by as gifts apart from lovely fresh produce. We would combine it with lunch out and sometimes popped into the El Ingenio shopping Centre on the way back.

Torrox isn´t far and is nice and flat. Market day on a Monday. Its lovely walking along the front and loads of places to eat along there. There is an Aldi in Torrox too.
