during the day there is an (approx) hourly bus service. Taxi to town will cost around €7. San Juan is at the top of a steep hill, so a 20/30 minute walk down is OK but the walk back is a killer, especially after a few drinks etc. The nearest large supermarket (Supersol) is by the sports arena.
Personally i wouldn't like to be up there without transport.
If you don't hire a car, I can guarantee you will go back fitter than when you arrived! However hiring a car makes sense anyway - it's the easiest way to get from the airport and doesn't cost a lot for a week. It also opens up trips along the coast and inland.
i have stayed up there a few times and not rented a car but as stated the walk is a long one. but after few beers i would not be able to use the car anyway
if you factor in a transfer and the odd taxis a car can be cheaper the company i use is malagacar. com and next week a car is 80 euro you need to factor in fuel(they charge half tank fuel) return empty and ins for wheels and tyres you dont need to take it but i do as a piece of mind. if you want use code )hellofan for an extra discount)
as chanquete sys you cn then explore
if not as i said i have managed well up there without a car but you need to enjoy walking and be fit
have a great tripEdited: 18 October 2013, 18:30
even better in a rush and put in 2 weeks instead of a week weeks rental 43 .99 euro for 5 door citroen
bargain remember code
Jeromeserena, is that code with a close bracket at the beginning?
Many people do live up in San Juan without a car but with car rental that cheap, it makes sense to hire. There is a supermarket on site (but expensive) and the lovely swimming pool is open till the end of this month (several people swimming today). There are also a couple of bars around the pool but it is definitely worth venturing into town to enjoy the free tapas in the bars.Edited: 19 October 2013, 17:28
