We're going to the Bahia Principe hotel in December this year & thought about hiring a little car for 3 days, as it's a bit out of the way.

Having researched the subject, I note that car hire firms there are increasingly adding insidious charges to their online cheap quoted price, like "pick up full (extra cost @ 3x local petrol price), return empty" clauses, & a 600 euro deposit (600!) if you don't take out their extra 'chips, scratch & tyre damage fake insurance.

So my question is, does anyone know of a reliable local car hire firm there which operates a what used to be standard hire cost without these weasel hidden costs? Preferably pick up empty, return empty, like it used to be in the olden days.

This scam of hidden extra costs really annoys me & puts me off hiring a car in Spain now, so I'd be grateful of any advice from someone who's recently got a good deal from a car hire firm in the area. Thanks in advance.
