Closest airport to Harwich flying from Paris, France

We will be flying from Paris, France to the U.K. to catch a cruise leaving Harwich, U.K. What is the closest airport in Harwich in the U.K. we can fly into?

For Harwich some possible options are:

London Southend airport

London Stansted airport

London City airport

I don’t know if City airport or Southend take Paris flights, others here may know better.

You may save time by travelling by train...it goes city centre to city centre. You will then have to get from London St Pancras by tube and train.

The nearest airport in distance is London Stansted but actual travelling will be London City.

I would consider the train from Paris, France to London, UK. It takes just over two hours. Travel from Gare du Nord station in Paris, France. Once you have arrived, you will then need to take a tube train from St Pancras International Station to Liverpool Street station in London, UK to connect with a train to Harwich, UK to get to your cruise ship, The Sea.

You aren't asking the right question -

How do <insert group size> including <insert number with mobility problems> with mobility problems going to get from <insert exact start point > in Paris to Harwich Port by <insert date and time here> to catch a ship and what time would we have to leave Paris in order to get there in time?

If the answer involves travelling on the same day your ship departs then think again - missing the boat due to Baguettes on the line is embarrassing.

If you really want to fly, AirFrance (through their subsidiary Cityjet) fly into LondonCity (LCY).

From LondonCity there are direct trains (DLR line) to Stratford, where you connect to the direct train to Harwich International.

I would never look to travel the same day as a cruise ship departs, and particularly not like this. Give yourself a night in England......

City airport can get fog bound and as a short take-off landing strip if the fog does roll in off the River `Thames' then the planes are not going anywhere...

If you particularly like boats, you could get the train to Holland (Hook of Holland) and sail to Harwich overnight with Stena line.... easy, reliable, new ferries (largest in europe) and of course it will take you to where you need to be...

Truth is there is no easy way by air to do this. It involves getting to a Paris airport which is going to take you at least an hour. There is no direct link between any of the London airports to Harwich Port. Infact there are no flights from Paris to Stansted the closest airport.

Take the advice already given, take the Eurostar, probably easier for you to take a taxi between stations in London if you are unfamiliar with the underground. There is a direct train to Harwich port from there.

So no need in Paris to go to an airport, worry about using a budget airline with luggage restrictions. Just get on a train in Paris, change stations and get another train. It's a no brainer.

Otherwise take a train to Hook of Holland (via Rotterdam) and take the ferry to Harwich from there.

Coming to think of it, yes, that IS the easiest and simplest option, with easy transfers, no need to get into and across London!

1) Take an afternoon 186 mph high-speed Thalys train from Paris Gare du Nord to Rotterdam Centraal in 2 hours 45 minutes, from €35 pre-booked at www.thalys.com.

2) Then hop on the every-half-hour local from Rotterdam Centraal to Hoek van Holland Haven, journey 20 minutes. The train arrives right at the Hoek van Holland ferry terminal, you walk from the train through check-in straight onto the ferry, easy-peasy.

3) The Stena LIne superferry 'Stena Britannica' sails from Hoek every night around 22:00 arriving Harwich International at 06:30 next morning - yes, this ferry actually arrives at the Harwich cruise terminal, it's the same place as the Stena ferry terminal.

Book the ferry from Hoek to Harwich at www.stenaline.nl.

All passengers on the 'Stena Britannica' travel in a private cabin with excellent Dux mattresses, toilet, shower, free WiFi and satellite TV. As good as your cruise liner, probably!

You avoid crossing London, and all the stress of airports.

There is the 133 bus hourly from Stansted to Colchester and you could get the train from there or there is the X30 in that direction to, but if it helps every 2 hours the National Express coach 250 goes straight to Ipswich so I'm not sure if this would be easier avoiding London by going via Colchester or Ipswich.

But as there are NO flights from Paris to Stansted, that would really not help you much.
