Thank you very much for your kindness
I confess: I prefer Harris. Perhaps, when I have more free days, I´ll visit Skye.
I plan to visit all Hebrides... who knows.
So, I need to find a good accommodation. Simple, nice, cosy place, as long as I can see the beach.
Could you recommend a place like that?
If you can get a flight (see attached link for details of Eastern Airways) your next issue is getting a cottage for a few days with a view of the beach this June. Now that might be a problem unless you have a large budget. Many of the Hebridean islands, including Harris, are popular and accommodation is booked well ahead and during the summer season is bookable for a minimum period of one week. Best to have a look at a B&B
There isn’t a great deal of accommodation on Harris, so the law of supply and demand drives the prices up 😕. And you may struggle to find anything at all in June, at this late stage. Good luck!
From Aberdeen the only flight available to The Hebrides is to Stornoway and using other public transport would make getting there (and back) too time consuming. Check out if it's possible to fly and have a search for bed & breakfast accommodation just in case you're lucky.
There are flights to the Hebridean islands from other airports elsewhere in Scotland (with Glasgow being the best option) and I've attached a couple of links for information. The logistics would not be easy to research or accommodation easy to find but if you have time it may be feasible.
If you like the idea of visiting an island from Aberdeen, have a look at flying to Kirkwall, Orkney. It possibly would have more availability for somewhere to stay and ways of getting around to see the sights.
Not clear if you drive (but prefer not to in UK) but hiring a car makes things a bit easier. In case you need to rely on public transport I've attached a link to the services available in Scotland.
Ohhhh... thank you very much!
That´s a information to keep forever.
Harris is a FANTASTIC option, don;t dismiss it. There are number of hostels in Tarbert, Leverburgh and Renigadale that are safe and welcoming for single travellers. There are a number of bed and breakfast options if you book and don't rely on just turning up.
onwards sailing into Stornoway which even though is on The Isle of Lewis - Lewis and Harris are, in fact, one island, so why not try and find accommodation in Stornoway, where there is many more options and then travel down to Harris on public transport and join one of the small tours around Harris, or even use the public mini-bus services that are frequent and brilliant.
I think if you're dying to see Harris you should really do it.
Stornoway might well be your best bet for accommodation as that's where the ferry sails in and out of.Edited: 27 May 2018, 15:17
