Stopover betwen Sandusky and Wasaga Beach

Can anyone recommend a stopover location between Cedar Point Sandusky and Wasaga Beach ?

Looks like around a 7 hour drive, intend to head towards Detroit as will have already driven from Niagara Falls.

2 Adults and 2 teens , July 2010.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Hi ScottyFifer;

If you can change your plans, I would suggest visiting Sandusky first, then Niagara Falls, and ending in Wasaga Beach.

Yes, Sandusky to Wasaga Beach is about a 7 hour drive, but that would be non-stop. You will need to add in additional time to cross the border, traffic delays around Toldeo Ohio, Detroit Michagan, and Toronto Canada, not to mention stops for washroom breaks, meals, etc. The distance is approx. 407 miles / 655 km.

Wasaga Beach from Niagara Falls is approx. 152 miles / 244 km, about a 3 hour drive.

Best Regards

Thanks for the reply.

Appreciate your comments but unable to change to your suggested travel plan.

Any comments on potential stopover points going the other way?

Hi ScottyFifer;

Between Detroit & Toronto is mostly farmland. I would suggest that you stop and visit Toronto. You could spend an entire week in Toronto and still have plenty to see and do !

Best Regards

Really no need to go anywhere near Toronto. Instead of crossing at Detroit, continue on I94 to Port Huron and cross over into Sarnia, ON. Pick up Hwy 21 which continues north along the Lake Huron shore to Owen Sound. From there, Hwy 24 goes east to Wasaga Beach. There are many places to stop along Hwy 21: Grand Bend, Bayfield, Goderich, Kincardine, Southhampton. This is, for the most part, a 2 lane highway, so will obviously take a little longer, but a very nice part of the province to see.
