nice place to stay in El Chalten?

Like the look of Los Cerros but it looks a bit overrated. Any comments on this or recommendations on special other places? Thanks!

Try Hosteria Los Ñires

www.losnireschalten.com.ar

Clean, nice and reasonable rated

You do not need a luxury place in Chalten...rather spend $$$ in guided treks.

Enjoy Chalten

For alternatives, I suggest you check out El Pilar or El Puma. One budget option is Altas Cumbres, although its strictly a no-frills place.

Thanks. They all look good. Has anyone stayed at El Pilar? the reviews seem mixed about the food/heating... but it looks like a great location.

Hi,

I spent four days in El Chalten in November 06. I actually don't like the newer hotels there, they spoil the small village atmosphere. We stayed in a lovely, well furnished, new, very clean little cabin, owned by a local couple. They built the cabin in front of their house, and it was just a perfect accomodation. It's called "Cabanas La Loma" and you can find their contact details on www.elchalten.com

We did a tour to the Glaciar Grande with Fitzroy Expeditions, and really liked it, our guide, Fernando, was very good and professional. Another day we did a hike starting from the Hosteria del Pilar, which looked very pretty, but it's a little far out.

El Chalten is just an unforgettable place, I hope you'll like it. Let me know if I can answer any other question.

Los Nires was nice and clean but in no way spectacular. It's got the cutest little puppy living outside and is right opposite the old chocolate place (that does wicked hot chocolate). Apparently, a brothel opened opposite recently (called Habibi) but don't let that put you off - we didn't notice anything.

We have just returned from 3 weeks in Argentina and spent 2 nights at El Pilar outside of El Chalten. We had a car so drove ourselves out there - about 45 minutes from EL Chalten because of the condition of the road - in a Toyota Corolla the going was slow.

We liked El Pilar - the location is fabulous - we looked out on Fitz Roy and the other peaks from our room. I had no issues with the heating... The food is ok - breakfast is coffee/tea, juice, medialunas, and toast - sparse by Argentinian standards. Dinner was good but not great. People gather in the sitting area around the fire prior to dinner for a drink and conversation (optional). Only one choice is served so if you have dietary concerns you might me in trouble. There is a starter (soup on our two nights - very good), an entree (we had pasta one night , steak with salad the next) and dessert. They have a decent wine selection (or you can bring your own - there was no charge for this). Given the location, I would say the food was fine. (Compared to a Buenos Aires restaurant - sure, its lacking.) We would go back!

Yes. We stayed in a twin room - which had an INCREDIBLE view of the Fitz Roy peak - and others nearby. The room was spacious, had good light during the day. The bathroom was good size, no issues with hot water - ie - there was plenty. The beds were too firm for our middle aged bones but it was very clean, heat was easy to control. Towels were nice, etc. Most of the rooms face away from the mountains - we ended up with this one because they were full and we would have had to spend one night in a double and then switch to the twin - so we took the twin sight unseen for the two nights - we were both glad we did.

We stayed in Nothofagus Bed& Breakfast. Good location, clean, comfortable, friendly. We loved it.

I haven't been able to find a website for El Pilar except through guide company websites.

Can someone tell me what the room rates are?

Thanks!
