Night Sky / Photography-at-night

Hi there!

I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of what the light-pollution situation is (I assume minimal), and what the views of the sky-at-night in Hanga Roa and Rapa Nui are like? Can one generally get a good view of the Milky Way, constellations etc...? Are there locations in which to do sky-at-night photography that can be recommended on the island?

It's minimal. I did get to see the Milky Way and some constellations as Orion, but there were times when it was cloudy. Early morning (before dawn) it was very clear. You could wake up early (5-6 am) and drive (if you rent a car) to the Southern part of Hanga Roa. There is a small fishing cove with little light pollution. People go there to watch the sunset. I suppose that the Northern side could also offer a nice spot for stargazing/photography but haven't been there after sunset. Good luck!
