The food on MI can be great! Food at AI hotels is average at best but food at restaurants located around the island can be great.
Pargo Frito (grilled Red Snapper) - Delicious!
During my visits I will eat 4-5 of these a week.

Before I discovered Pargo Frito these were my choice for lunch.
In the following pic you'll see some tomato slice. Locals are very proud of their tomatos. They claim they are the best. After eating them I have to agree!
Pastas - there are many pasta dishes available in many restaurants. You will find sauces such as alfredo and marinera. You can get pastas with chicken, seafood, etc.
Steak - various cuts of beef are available and quite tasty.
Ostras - raw oysters at Playa La Restinga - very fresh and very cheap!
Local items such as Empanadas, Arepas, Cachitos, Cachapas and Cochino must be sampled as they are very good as well. A new lunch favourite of mine is a cachapa, some cochino and guasacaca sauce. Cochino is roasted pork. Guasacaca sauce is a venezuelan sauce made with advocado and is very different than guacamole.
Cachito - bun/pastry baked with cheese or hame or both inside.
Pizza - there are several very good pizza places around the island. I've found the local pizzas different than what I'm used to and quite good.
