tour to caracas from margarita

We are going to Margarita in two weeks time and would like to visit caracas, the bolivar history etc.

Would prefer to spend a night in the city.

Does anyone know of any tours available?

How difficult would it be to do independantly, especially for someone who does not speak Spanish?

any advice would be welcome

I'm currently in Caracas having spent a week or so in MI. Caracas is a great city but it's not for the faint hearted. I would strongly advise against travelling independently without a very good command of Spanish.

All that said, if you can find a guide/escort ('m sure they exist), Caracas really is worth the trouble and there is more than a days worth of things too see (you could probably spend a day sat in traffic!).

It's top dollar to stay in a good hotel (a must) but with the black market exchange rate you can get somewhere quite snazy for less than £100 (Pestana where we are staying is very good). Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Terry, ditto to what Zippy says about Caracas not being for the faint of heart or non-spanish speaking person.

Its a big city and in your case a guide would be a good idea.

There is a Dutch guy that lives in Caracas and does airport meet and greet and transfers.

He speaks spanish and english (and I would imagine dutch)

It might be worth giving him a call and seeing if he would be interested in doing a guide service to see the city.

His name is Hans Peter Zingg and his cell phone is (58) 414 322 8798.

While in Caracas take the teleferico (cable car) to the top of El Avila peak for the stunning views down on Caracas and the Caribbean coastline on the opposite side.

Lots of great restaurants and night life in Caracas-save your shopping for Margarita as it is a free port.

Enjoy your time in Venezuela!!!!!!

Urban tours are not impossible, but mostly uncommon. I'd recommend having at least a basic command of Spanish phrases in order to hang aroung more effectively, also a detailed map if not a guide in flesh and bone.

The advantage of being in Caracas is that it is a modern city and good things are really accessible from anywhere.
