Aore or Oyster???

Hi My hubby and I are looking to spend 10-12 days on Santo.

Would really appreciate advise as to whether it is a good idea to spend a couple of nights at Port Vila too.

Would you reccomend Aore or Oyster (they seem to be an equivalent cost) Are there food deals at either to pre purchase?

Is it worth booking a night at Lannoch too or is it close enough from either of the accomodations?

Looking to travel in either late Feb (cheaper) or late May (any ideas what is a better time?)

Many thanks.

Aore: Slightly larger resort than Oyster; located accross the water from Luganville so easy access (there are 4+ boats going over and back a day); close to Coolidge and all the dive sites. Food was excellent; accommodation very good.

Oyster: small resort; closer to Champayne Beach and Lonnoc; haven't stayed there so can't offer you more than that. Lonnoc is beautiful but the food and accommodation is really basic.

Port Vila is good for a variety of excellent restaurants; the waterfalls (really worth seeing) plus some adventure stuff.

May - Feb could be really wet (May could too but less chance)

Hi bynny,

I'd suggest mixing it up a bit for a variety of experiences and stay a few nights at each. Vila is the main tourist destination and has markets and duty free, which you won't find on Santo. Oyster is right in the thick of the far north east area which is really beautiful. You can canoe to the blue holes from Oyster Is and save a bit on trips to Champagne beach etc. Call Grant. He is very friendly.

Food deals are more of a main resort in Vila concept but give them a call and find out for sure.

Oyster is quite close to Lonnoc. You could check out the bungalows and book a night at Lonnoc, if you decide to, on the spot.

Late May is likely to be a lot kinder in the heat/rain/humidity dept.

We have just returned from 5 nights on Oyster Island - if we knew how good it was, we would have spent our whole Vanuatu holiday there. Accommodation is fantastic. Each room has a mini bar and fridge, along with tea and coffee making facilities. We didn't find the meals overly expensive, and some days all we had was bread and dips for dinner on our balcony with a few drinks. Kayaks can be hired and you can kayak to the blue hole, or around the island. Snorkelling was good behind the island, and the resort wasn't overly busy. Hubby fished in front of the restaurant each morning, and caught fish for the locals. The staff were excellent, and were very obliging. Dives etc can also be arranged for you, and there is another resort up the chanel if you want a change of scenery for dinner.

Hi frangipani,

I just read your Vila Chaumieres review as well. Yes it is a top spot. That restaurant transports you to another world. It feels like you are on a movie set with those big crabpot lights over the water.

Have you considered putting a review up for Oyster Island as well? They are a tiny but excellent resort and well worth keeping alive as a going concern for future visits to Santo. (By us :)
