Travelling around Santo

We are staying at Turtle Bay resort in December (and getting very excited!) and wanted to know what are our options of getting from the airport to the resort, and also around the island.

Should we use the local buses or organise tours and which tours or tour groups would be recommended. There will be 3 of us traveling and we want to do the Champagne/ Lonnoc beach, the holes or Riki trip.

Hi Winterose,

On Santo you will need to organise your trips with a driver. Buses are not as highly available on Santo as they are around Vila.

You could contact Kenneth Lave on mobile 7742151 or pop across to Oyster Island and make enquiries about their tour operator who seems to have a good rep.

Another tour operator is Timmy Rovu on 40968 or 36862

Phones make a long beep rather than a ringtone so be patient when you call. Vanuatu is one hour later than AEST so if it is daylight when you phone it is likely to be daylight on Santo.

So in short. Organise your trips. Pick up some brochures at the travel info stand in Luganville when you get a chance.

To go to the blue holes and Riri River you can kayak from Turtle Beach but take the trouble to find out the tide times so the current is friendly to your efforts.

Hope this helps,

I agree with Jen re the tides, we were fighting it the whole way to the blue hole (actually I was the only one paddling, hubby fished from Oyster Island and then halfway up the river!).

We were collected from the airport by Daniel from Paradise Tours, a very informative guide!

Johnny who looks after the Blue Hole has a taxi but I'm not sure how to contact him, maybe email Oyster Island Resort (website has contact details www.oysterisland.com), for further information.

Enjoy your holiday!
