What about malaria tablets in Santo?

Is it necessary to take medication in Santo...we'd prefer not to if possible.

Hi pacifictraveller1,

Ultimately, the decision is yours. Some malaria medication can lead to increased chance of sunburn. We decided against for our 10 days on Santo.

There were mozzies, but we didn't get a sense that there was a problem with malaria from our conversations.

Hi Pacific Traveller,

Again, the decision is yours but four of us went on the previous trip and were there for 9 days. One of the group was on medication that prevented her from taking malaria tablets anyway. All of us took natural personal insect repellent in roll on form and in spray bottle form, plus a bottle of mouthwash in a spray bottle.

The mouthwash can be sprayed around your balcony to create an insect free zone. It smells quite nice compared to mozzy repellent.

The benefit of the low irritant ones is that you use it more frequently as the smell is not off-putting.

The benefit of the roll-on is that you can put it around your ankles and the back of your neck which seems to miss out on the spray.

On the other hand we hardly even saw any mozzies outside of Luganville itself.

So the only time we were truly diligent with it was while in Luganville, but our general good luck should not deter you from plastering yourself with protective cream if you feel it to be necessary.

Hope this helps,

Jen

Thank you both...that's what I was hoping for.

My doctor is "giving me a hard time".... based on the Travel info available to him.

That's the sort of sales talk us ordinary folk have to do our own due diligence on.
