Hotels? Someone?

I know this type of question is like beating a dead horse but I have done my research and would like some recent advice/comments as most threads I've read are from 06,07..etc.

Myself and 2 friends, guys, 26 years old are planning a trip and D.R is pretty much at the top of our list. I like Cabarete from what I've read but it seems like there isn't a whole lot of hotels to choose from. I haven't stayed at a non AI down south before.

We like to relax and do some simple activities during the day and party at night. I'm afraid the beaches will be full of people flying kites and stuff, we'd like to stay somewhere close to the action but not on top of a convenience store on the main strip if you know what I mean. As of now hotel Alegria seems like a nice place based on reviews, can anyone provide some educated suggestions of hotels based on our preferences? Sosua seems nice but from my readings people steer toward Cabarete, we want a busy hotel to meet people and have fun.

Thanks!

In that price range Alegria is an excellent choice.

In Sosua look at the New Garden.

Our price range can go above Hotel Alegria's prices, I was just interested to see if there was any better options.

Villa Taina. It's very centrally located, the beach is very nice with very few kiters and windsurfers.

" we want a busy hotel to meet people and have fun." In that case, you probably have to stay in a sufers' hotel. That is where you have more chances to meet people your age in the hotel itself. It's very hard to control who stays and when, and whether you'll have the environment you're looking for. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

A great alternative for a place where you will certainly meet lots of people is Swell Surf Camp (listed in the B&B section). All sorts of people stay there, not just surfers. It's not on the beach but it has a gorgeous pool. You'll be about 1 1/2 block from the beach.

I would suggest Millennium if you can afford it is in a busy kiter beach.

PS: for the sake of disclosure, I'm co-owner of Hotel Alegria.

If you are all men and want better nightlife choose sosua , like Bobk said new garden hotel or casa cayena are busy hotels in sosua with lots of interesting people. Sosua has nice beaches , restaurants , bars, and more ladies then cabarete.also 2 casinos , great snorkeling, scuba diving and plenty of more excursions.

Definitely check out cabarete also. They are both interesting places
