Just back from the Reef

We just got back from spending two weeks at the Casa Marina Reef and had a great time. I am 10 shades darker and 10 pounds heavier. The weather in general was HOT!!! When BobK says its cool, ignore him, lol (sorry Bob) Any questions just ask.

At what stage are the renovations? Are both sides now complete? Like the idea of going there - just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

the renos are still on going but mostly on the beach side. Honestly though, the renos had no effect on us. You see the odd worker walking around with a 2x6 or some tools but you would see that at any resort that is being up-kept. From what we saw there were a couple of shops that were closed but you can walk out on the street and buy the same thing. The room I had was not new but clean. We had a new pillow top mattress, a plasma tv with several english speaking channels and an air conditioner that worked great.

Hey I was looking to book soon I am looking at several different places and Casa marina is one. What is the difference between beach and reef? Are you free to goto both resorts? How is the bar service? I am reading some bars are cash? What are the bar hours? Is there a casino at the resort? How is the buffet food? Is it difficult to get al a carte reservations? are you limited to them? Are you free to use the bikes, motorized sports and non motorized sports freely? THANKS ALOT!

Hi Chris

I was in the Reef buildings and can't really tell you the diff between the Reef and Beach except from outside. The Beach rooms had fancier looking balconies and maybe a little more stylish decor. I believe that most rooms on both sides now have new mattres's and tv's. You can freely use any amenities of either resort but they do share the same alacartes and have seperate buffets. The bar service is a typical lower budget all inclusive, ie, get in line and hope they pour a good drink. lol There is a cash bar near the disco that was kinda nice because the younger, louder crowd didn't use it so we could sit and talk abit with others we met. There are about 7 inclusive bars so you are never far from a drinkexcept they close around one except the disco. The buffet food was probably the better buffet food I have had in the past and the alacartes are easy to make a reservation. They said three per week but we had enough tickets to go every night. The bikes can be signed out and they even offer a free tour in the mornings. The only water sports I seen were scuba and snorkel which was easy to arrange right on site but there were a rack of kayakes and floats that never seemed to be used.

Over all we were happy with the Reef resort and would reccomend to book the cheapist that is available to you because I could not see much diff between the two sides. The big diff in location is the Reef rooms surround the main pool so is noisier and the Beach rooms surround the two quiter pools. Hope that helps

Mike :)
