Hiking on the beach 12/23 - 1/3

I will be staying at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro from 12/22 - 1/4. I think according to google maps that I can hike south along the beach for 5 miles (10 miles out and back) and north for about 6.5 miles (13 miles out and back). Any one interested in hiking some morning? Drop me a reply.

There will be loads and loads of beach walkers starting in the early morning, not sure about hiking, but loads of beach walkers.... it's a nice beach for beach walking, take lots of water with you though.

and you will be leaning towards the ocean...lol ... from the waves coming in. I walk an hour or so everyday ... if you want to do a long walk you can always catch a water taxi back..? Lots of water isn't the word for it... noon til 3 it's really hot.

Along these lines...does anyone know if it is safe to walk for long distances on the beach at Excellence. First timer to EPC and I understand it is remote. Not too concerned, but thought I would ask.

Yes - not sure how far you can walk to the right when facing the ocean, but if go left, you can walk for quite a ways. You can walk about a mile or so until you reach Zoetry, and then another mile or so until you reach Sivory. We stayed at Zoetry, and from time to time, saw some people walking by - gorgeous stretch of beach to be sure! We had planned to walk to Excellence last year, but never did - we're returning in July and it's on our list of things to do!!

Enjoy your trip - it's a beautiful area, and you'll enjoy the quiet. Very little foot traffic and no boat traffic at all.

Thanks for the info Laceyblue. If I get to Cuba, I will turnaround. LOL. I may need an adult beverage at one of the neighboring resorts after a long hike.

LOL Chris - Yes, just watch that puddle in between :D

I'd just suggest you bring some "travellers". The beach is public and you're free to walk along it for sure, but we saw our security guys escort two young ladies away from the beach restaurant washroom one day...we'd thought of bringing a soft-sided cooler actually. Nothing like a liquid picnic, lol...

I am an experienced hiker and do at least 16 to 20 miles every Sunday morning to train for a 36 mile hike I do every spring. I was hoping to continue with that while on vacation (does not have to be on a Sunday). I was just looking for some company to go along with me. If any one is interested in doing a rigorous hike not just a beach stroll please drop me a line.

Thanks

I do when I am at the beach in 80 degree weather. I plan on hiking around 8 am and depending on the distance should be done in 3-4 hrs. Will burn somewhere around 2000 calories. That leaves plenty of room for the great food at the resort. I will also have plenty of water with me.
