Does anyone know about snorkeling in Punta Cana? Hoping its available right off the beach?
Off the beach is next to nothing as there is not much coral around. And even beyond that snorkeling is not all that extensive in the PC area ..
South and North coast is much better.
And that being said still not as diversified as other places I have traveled.
This is the best info I could find you:
Snorkeling in PC is not like Cozumel. It's usually just a booze cruize and not professional. We prefer not going anywhere but grabbing a leftover banana or bread and heading right out to the ropes at the resort, have seen the same fish there that you will see on a tour, minus the coral...
Have fun :)
which resort are you staying at ...?
If you go snorkeling. Please do not feed the fish things like bread and bananas. This is not part of there natural diet. And can actually be very harmful to them.
We would stay at either Iberostar or secrets. And thank you all for your help.
I've never considered feeding a fish unless it's in a tank lol!!
my husband snorkeled at the beach in front of Iberostar - he loved it and saw so many different fish..
we also saw many people feeding the fish bread..
Not sure if you are trying to condone feeding the fish bread because others were doing it ?
And it's not there isn't any fish to be seen. There is. I have seen rays also.
But. Its definitely not a spot I would promote to someone who wants to snorkel daily from the beach.
northern ... all the other stuff floating in the ocean is better for their diet? Not trying to be smart but vegitation is natural to waters. And it's what they use in multiple countries to attract fish for viewing. I have had the best luck outside the ropes and to the left Majestic Colonial. Sea Urchin and a few other types of swimmers.
It can be quite busy with boat traffic in front of Secrets so I doubt there would be much to see. Further offshore in front of Secrets general area is a " reef" where lots of the tour boats stop for snorkelling. The coral is pretty dead from but there was some nice fish and lots of urchins. We went out with a fisherman , he just took handfuls of sand and sprinkled it thru his fingers and the fish all came around.
