canopy/rainforest or down by the water?

Hi:

I see some of the tours in Manu are done more in the rainforest and some are done by boat cruising around. Which would be the most interesting in terms of variety of things to do/see, and more apt to be able to view wildlife and birds? I've seen alligators, so those are not top priority.

Thanks....

I would choose the Canopy and walking in the rain forest.

Even though, the cruises also have good reports, but they are a cruise.

The crocodilia of the Amazon is the Caiman, which is similar to the alligator but a different species. Actually, there are several varieties of caiman in the Amazon Basin including some dwarf species. They are quite interesting.

Manu does not offer expedition cruises like you can find in the North near Iquitos, this is because the region is generally inaccessible to larger boats. You will likely go from lodge to lodge on smaller outboards, sleeping on land. This is a nice way to see things and keeps you moving through the park instead of in only one place.

Canopy tours and zip-lines are available also, they are fun.

Your tour of Manu would likely be in the buffer zone as access is restricted to the park itself unless its for scientific purposes. Manu is incredibly rich, and you will definitely see parrots, monkeys, and if luck larger mammals (ie: Tapir, Jaguar, Caypibara, etc). With all visits to the jungle, the most important thing is to have LOTS of patience, move quietly and respectfully, and use all of your senses - then you will experience the magic of the place

Happy Travels!
