Insight Vacations' Jordan Experience

I'm exploring the possibility of using Insight Vacations' services for a trip to Jordan.

Has anyone ever traveled to Jordan with this company?

Any feedback on their reliability, the tour packages and customer service would be great.

Thanks

Insight's website has a section where you can ask questions, much like the TA forums. It also has tour tales and there may well be reports of this tour.

I have been on 3 Insight tours and refuse to use them again, but others enjoy them.

We had the experience of a bad guide in Italy who continually pushed all the optional tours, especially those which were essentially just meals, and did not give any guidance to those who wished to eat independently (and for about a quarter of the cost). We also spent considerable time at various factories, where we were not interested in purchasing, and had a few other stuff ups. It put us off them in particular and actually large group tours in general. Insight are most probably as good and as bad as all other similar companies, but the prices were quite high for an average type experience. However, some people really enjoyed the tour so it really comes down to an individual's preference. So for Israel we're going to do it independently, and for Jordan a private tour (which will actually be cheaper than any group tour we can find from Australia).

I hope I haven't put you off, but after looking at some of the tour operators recommended on this site, I think you can get a tailor made private tour cheaper than a large group tour where you are constrained by someone else's timetable. We did Insight Turkey, which was a great tour, even though we weren't enamoured of that guide either, and Spain, Portugal and Morocco where we DID have a good guide. All I can say is you should do what you feel is right for you. After 2 RTW trips I feel more confident in organising things myself, but certainly wouldn't have been on our first.

Whatever, I'm certainly looking forward to coming to Jordan in 2011 and have given myself a long time to plan so that we have a rewarding trip.

Astalavisaa , I have to agree with dragonlady in much to what she said. If language is not the barrier for you, try organize private tour, in Jordan this works much better than most of the organized tours. Some agents do excellent individual tours some are disaster. I had different experiences even with the same agents while escorting our groups from Croatia. It is not always black and white situation however.

It really depends of the quality and price, since Jordan is not cheap destination, operators have it very hard to make win win situation for all. Certain agents in Jordan only work with certain countries and standards are not set equal for all the countries, also very often it happens that the agent/operator has no faults but is limited by the outbound agency in your own country, it is not that simple as it looks to the common traveler. Putting the travel together takes work and time, some people are skilful others not.

However, my suggestion to you is to call El Corte Ingles or Condor viajes to find out who are their operating agents in Jordan and how much is tailor made trip through them, and if this is too expensive, you can find private driver and make your own booking of hotels through internet. If you need recommendations you can PM me, happy to help. Saludos.
