Bwindi gorilla groups: alternatives to Buhoma

we are planning our tour in Uganda in August, we are currently gathering information and trying to outline a rough itinerary.

For what concern gorilla families we are thinking of Buhoma, but UWA has just told us that permits for Buhoma are not available. Can somebody could suggest us an alternative that could be easy to approach as Buhoma?

Thank you all!!

There is no guaranteed easy way to aproach Gorillas in Buhoma or elsewhere. One group may be 'easy' or not as hard on one day but the next can be many hours of trekking.

Other venues for groups are in Ruhija near the Park Gate and at Nkuringo in the south side of Bwindi.

I just got back from Nkuringo Gorilla Camp on in the Southern part of the Bwindi. From here I visited both Nshongi group and Nkuringo Group. Nkuringo group was only about 2 hours trek (each way) but the climb was steep. Nshongi was much further (started at 9am and finished at 7pm), but the trek was less physical. Porters were essential for most of the people trekking because it was not easy. Nkuringo Gorilla Camp is quite nice and the staff was great, also much cheaper than the neighbor Clouds Lodge.

August Gorilla permits for major groups are sold out. You can only get Ruhija gorilla permits and these ones have to be bought soonest.
