Sm Town similar to Nafplion -but nearer to Athens!

we love Nafplion, but only have a very limited time so -does anyone know of a small town, up to an hour from Athens, can be got to by bus, pref by the sea but not necessarily, that has a similar feel to lovely Nafplion? we are flying in to Athens airport.

A tall order I know!

Many thanks

Nafplio is unique, there is no similar town closer to Athens.

Rafina is a pleasant seaside town not far from Athens, but not the equivalent of Nafplio.

Nafplio would be the top choice . . . very nice Old World feel to the Old Town part with lots of small streets lined with tavernas, shops, nice waterfront, beautiful old homes/buildings. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay and still within a couple hours drive of Athens.

You could take the ferry to Aegina.

Aegina would be a good choice, larger than Hydra with better beaches, archaeological sites, more options for accommodations, etc. But Hydra is something to be seen, especially the waterfront and the back streets & alleys are much quieter and less expensive than the waterfront. And with donkeys being the only transportation it's a once-of-a-kind experience!

Nothing is like Nafplio, but you can get some of that more relaxed seaside feel in the coastal towns south of Athens... extending from Piraeus to the southern tip of the Attica Peninsula at Cape Sounion. You can get there from central Athens by bus or the coastal tram.

Aegina is the closest thing to Nafplio in the vicinity of Athens.

Corfu town and Ermoupoli are similar to Nafplio in style and atmosphere, but both are a long way away from Athens.

God no, I worked there for a year. not somwhere you want to spend time. Get on the ferries and go somewhere intersting.

what about ancient epidavros? 1hour 40 from athens, around 100 euros by taxi
