ancestor in Wexford

We are traveling by train from Dublin to Wexford (Enniscoty) to visit the town where my grandmother was born. Does anyone have any idea/s as to how we could locate where she lived? The only information I have is that she was Baptized in St. Aidan's church and her parents name. Since we only are going for one day, we want to make sure we know where we are going.

Try this website

Look at the census records for 1901 and 1911. Even if your Gran wasn't born by then, you could look at where her parents were living. Then look a bit further.

Since you have the name of the church, a name and an approximate (?) date of birth you could write to the church and ask them to check the records for you, offer to make a donation to cover time and trouble. That would give you a head start when you get there. If you are given an address it will most likely be a townland and they can be a bit difficult to track down as they are not signposted (usually), you will need a bit of local help - a local taxi driver would be a good start.

I'm guessing that St Aidan's is the cathedral in the town which would indicate that baptisms were locals in the town rather than townlands outside. The registers in the church should show and it shoukd be possible to buy a Baptismal Certificate.

The trip down by train is very scenic. Pick a seat on the left hand side of the carriage facing the direction of travel for the best views.
