Thanks everyone for your contributions. This thread has helped me understand what on earth has actually been going on, having just got home from work and found an email from TO about my VP booking. I've emailed VP and will let you know how I get on.

I can only hope if there is commercial skullduggery going on, whether it's the villa's owners being unscrupulous or other agents, that karma will come 'n get you.

I spent the 30 mins on the phone to VP, the girl was lovely. Her words- "some of the villas in their portfolio have been poached by a rival company, the majorca company that owns them has had a long term agreement with them for a number of years, however has renaged on the deal at the last minute. The company which has gazumped them in pricing, has recently lost it's abta licence, ironically this free's up a lot of cash for the business"; in short they can spend all their money securing villas at over the top prices, but have no insurance if anything goes wrong".  They have offered me a refund and an alternative which i am considering. I then went to the pub and was chatting to into a local businessman gave me an insight into travelopo, as it is based in the locally. He knows their accountant or solicitor and owner by reputation. His words "this move is very much sh-t or bust, the company has lost its licence, if your taking a villa prior to July fine afterwards - take a tent" The owner who has chequered past to say the least. Irrespective of wether travelopo is financially viable he indicated Villa parade & abta could freeze on TOs assets as something illegal has happened hence how we all received emails from villa parades data base.

This is a scam by Travelopo! Villa parade are operating with an ABTA licence whereas Travelopo have had theirs taken off them! I have got my holiday sorted out eventually by Villaparade and have offered me a good alternative villa. I would have no confidence at all booking with TRAVELOPO who are currently operating illegally.

Travelopo deleted all of the posts on their Facebook page, where they had been very vocal all day. Their behaviour is very unprofessional. I will absolutley not be booking with them and will await to see what Villa Parade are able to offer.

They were probably worried about being sued if they were bad mouthing VP with no substantial proof.

Just hope someone from VP had time to print it off before it was deleted.

Surely they must realise that VP are not going to take them nicking their client list and directly emailing people without their permission lying down.

No wonder ABTA have withdrawn their bonding for this company, so future bookers will have no cover.

ABTA's statement on their website about Villa Parade / Travelopo is a bit tight-lipped. However when I spoke to a man from ABTA on the phone yesterday afternoon (when the situation was still very unclear) I said that it sounded as though Travelopo were being opportunistic and cheeky, and he said "yes...".

Travelopo need to explain how they got all of the database, not just the contact details relating to the properties where there are problems.

Travelopo FB page has just deleted all conversations from today - where they have repeatedly accused both VP and ABTA of acting fraudulantly (their spelling not mine).

Best of luck to anyone who chances their hard earned cash with this company their behavior does not fill me with confidence

Ha Ha at fraudulantly, that doesn't give you much confidence either. An old thread in the Italy forum about them - complaints where they take a big damage deposit upfront and then though no damage caused hang on to your money for ages - presumably to aid cash flow.

People having to really chase to get their money back and resorting to posting on TA to get a result. Each time they blamed 'local managing agents'.
