Simple cabin accommodation near Algonquin park?

I have been reading the posts, looking at the web sites and still have a bit of difficulty of finding a simple cabin by the lake (be it Oxbow or any other lake), where we could rent a canoe, spend some relaxing time on the lake.

All the cabins I looked at had much more then we need, like TV, wifi, even a housekeeping. Are there any simple rustic cabins on the lake with canoe/kayak that you would recommend?

thank you

The closest you will come are the 6 or 8 cottage resorts on Oxtongue Lake about 6 miles from the West gate of Algonquin Park. Since only a few are on Trip Advisor, google Oxtongue Lake.

Good day Boleslav, the simplest near Oxtongue Lake and Algonquin Park's west gate (Hwy #60) is The WolfDen Bunkhouse, it's a hostel that features Log Cabins. Ben is the owner, really nice guy. No TV, No WIFI just a nice place to crash for the night or a few nights with some really nice people.

Algonquin Outfitters just down the road and across the bridge West from the Wolfden offers gear rentals, (Canoe`s, kayaks, bikes, etc) and complete outfitting (including fully outfitted and guided trips into Algonquin Park and on the Oxtongue River. (I believe the Wolfden also may have a canoe or two for rent).

Have a great visit to Algonquin Park, I live and work there so if you have any other questions feel free to ask. There`s also a few other places that offer a few more amenities that I`ve listed below:

If you want really rustic and off the beaten path, there's 14 old ranger cabins located in Algonquin Park. Most require canoeing to get to them which sounds like it would maybe be a little more than you are looking for, but a few like the Rain Lake cabin and the Brent / Ceder Lake cabin you can drive up to. They have little amenities, but offer a wonderful get away and often a lovely lake view from your private cabin.

They are often booked the day they are available so getting one can be quite a challenge: algonquinpark.on.ca/visit/…ranger-cabins.php

Dear Boleslav: If you want to stay on the east side of Algonquin Park you could try Hay Lake Lodge. I've stayed there often - no television & only a pay phone but great lakeside cabins. The host Erin is great. One of the few lakes where you can canoe into the Park. Hay Lake is fabulous - only 70 cottage on an 11 mile lake so very quiet and few motorboats.

Have a great time. Bill.
