Two days in Popayan

Mi wife and I are going to spend two days in Popayan in the way to the Ecuador. Any particular suggestion about things to do or visit. We do not have time to deviate to San Agustin or Tierradentro, but any input would be appropriate.

Hi MarioferCol

Not much to do in Popayán but you could just do nothing. Or a city tour. And if you are there on a Tuesday you can get a trip to Silvia to see the Guambaiano market.

It's a great city though, a really nice university vibe to it. It is a UNESCO first city of gastronomy but has goddam awful food. There are only two restaurants worth going to, which conveniently is the same as the number of days you have there.

Mainly it is just a nice city to hang out in. Enjoy

Dress in layers as you will be in very cold and hot climates ,pack lightly and travel by day . Eat the daily special .It is known as "el plato campesino " or "El almuerzo typico ". Its always your safest bet .The food is excellent if you eat what they cook best , their daily special which is what the locals eat . Fruit is ok if you wash it well ,you do not need a balanced meal just calories and electrolytes . Buy the equivalent of woolite to wash your clothes and hang them at night .Go to bed early .Dress down and practice your Spanish .Silvia is not worth the trip if you only have two days .Stay in the city . Most people are very nice .Keep your emergency cash stash hidden , but keep what you plan to spend that day ready to donate if needed ,you want to have something to give if asked .Art can be very cheap paintings , posters and prints ,if you take a plastic cylinder and roll it up many can fit .Walk like you own the place and have been there all your life .Enjoy every minute and don't let the little things spoil the fun .
