How easy is getting around Beverly Hills without a car?

We are staying 3 nights in either Hollywood or Beverly Hills in March. I do not want to drive - am happy to pay for drivers or taxi's - but am wondering if this is easier to accomplish in Hollywood or Beverly Hills. Ideally I'd like to be able to walk to as much as possible. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

What will you be doing and seeing while here?

It depends a bit on your itinerary. Hollywood tends to be better for public transportation links to other areas, but Beverly Hills tends to be a bit more central for most tourist itineraries so if you rely on taxis or private cars might be a little cheaper (but hotels in BH are generally more expensive than Hollywood).

If you stay in a good spot it either area, it will be walkable in the sense of having nearby shops and restaurants. But in general LA is not a walking city, its a car city - neighborhoods might only be a few square miles and you can walk within them, but distances between non-adjoining neighborhoods will generally be too far to walk (for instance, the center of Hollywood to the center of Beverly Hills is nearly a 5 mile walk).

Want to see Rodeo Drive, eat lunch at The Ivy, but also we are going to hire a driver to go see the Ellen Degeneras show. So.....we are kind of all over the place. I'm going to be doing more 'touristy' things since I'll be with 2 daughters (early 20's) who are going to be completely star struck. Any tips or advice would be great! Thanks so much

If your daughters want to see stars, then head to Malibu for dinner - especially Nobu or Nikita or Taverna Tony's. If you want a Beverly Hills experience, and want to be able to walk out your hotel door to do it, then definitely stay in Beverly Hills. Hollywood is a touristy, gross, and you'll be over it in a very short time. What is your budget per night?

Beverly Hills is probably more what you expect. Hollywood is a major disappointment.

Well, again more specific things that you want to do, the better, but I am gathering that you'd enjoy Beverly Hills more (nicer area, but quieter and a bit more shut down after dark - shops are mostly closed and little foot traffic, though restaurants remain open) and it will *probably* be more central for you. West Hollywood is another area where you might consider staying, as its basically in between Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

If you or your daughters are at all fans of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", Lisa Vanderpump's Villa Blanca restaurant is actually pretty good and its right next to Rodeo Drive. Kyle's boutique is also quite near by Villa Blanca. Lisa's other restaurant, Sur, is over on Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood, only about 1/2 mile from The Ivy. The Beverly Wilshire Hotel is right next to Rodeo Drive and is recognizable from the film "Pretty Woman". But there are recognizable filming locations all over LA so if that sort of thing interests you, you can Google for filming locations for your favorite films or see the relevant sections at www.seeing-stars.com

I would down load the uber cell app and get a quote to your destinations. The rates do go up during peak times
