1st trip to Turks/Long Bay Beach...any last minute advice!?

I'm surprising my husband for his 40th birthday! 3 other couples are flying in separately and surprising him on the island! None of us have been here and I want to show my guests a wonderful time. Here's all I have so far: We will be there the first week of February and are staying on Long Bay Beach for 5 nights. I've made one reservation at Coco Bistro. I'm looking for any other last minute advice on 'must do/see, must eat, must drink, or MUST PACK' for a group of 8 adults! Thank you, kind people!

Wow, sounds glorious. You picked a beautiful spot. Don't miss Bugaloos for lunch, or the infinity bar.

If Thursday go to Fish Fry!

Half day excursion on either Caicos Dream Tours or Island Vibes (most fun day ever)

Other dinners to consider, Le Bouchon, Bay Bistro

Lunch fish tacos at Hemingways are so not miss

You must hang out somewhere on Grace Bay/Leeward as this is what pit Tci on the map! Scrumptious

Go for a charter boat ride for 1/2 day or full day bombing around the outer Cays & Island beaches. Use Caicos Dream Tours & request the Dr. Jim itinerary. You will see/experience more than any other excursion. They will take you places that most regular excursions don't. Dr. Jim

Consider learning to kitesurf!!! Long Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the world for kitesurfing. The water is smooth, crystal clear, warm and shallow for miles and miles.

It will take a couple of lessons to get going, but there are several schools along the east end of the beach. I personally use "Kitesurf TCI" for lessons since they have a small boat which saves a lot of time. The owner, Robert, is a terrific teacher. I will arrive this Friday for 6 days of kitesurfing, and will be renting equipment from them. Since you will be right there, give it a go!

Enjoy!

Hello...how was Long Bay? I would appreciate your input. We are looking to book a villa there, but have now found conflicting reviews saying the water is choppy and too many kite surfers. We have a toddler and just trying to determine the best beach to enjoy. Right now our rental options are limited to Long Beach or Babalua Beach.

Thank You!

Our first trip to Long Bay Beach at The Shore Club was May 6-13. The water was a beautiful turquoise and very flat (no waves). Winds varied from calm to 17-18 mph during our stay. Only saw kite surfers 3 or 4 days.

The beach in front of The Shore Club is beautiful. The only negative is there is a band of rocks about 6 feet wide that runs parallel to the beach. Water shoes would help navigate through the rocks. Once you clear them, no issues walking. The water is very shallow compared to Grace Bay. A shipwreck is 2 miles off shore, sitting in 5 feet of water. I walked 1 1/2 miles out to it and the water only came up to my chest and I could still see my toes. Crystal clear water!

During our morning walks on the beach, we did see stretches where there were broken conch shells along the waterline and into the water. My wife read that there was once a conch farms located on Long Bay which would explain the large amounts of broken shells.

While we were there we saw several families with very small children playing in the water.

GRamaekers: When are you planning your trip? Depending upon what time of year you are there, Long Bay, like Grace Bay will change her make-up due to wind direction and strength, and large storms passing near Provo.

Our first trip to Provo and Grace Bay was in June 2010. Grace Bay was flat as a piece of glass, no waves at all.

Since then, we have been returning in each October and Grace Bay has been active. In fact, the past 3 years, we actually saw white caps!

TurksHeadGuy....Thank you for helping! It's our first trip to Turks and Caicos and we are taking my entire family so I want it to be special. Due to work schedules we have to go July 22nd to July 29th. We have a large party of 10 ppl and due to size and budget that's why we are limited to the 1 house and Grace Bay and 1 on Long Beach. I appreciate any input or advice you have to offer!
