Luxe Calistoga B&B

My fiance and I are planning a May honeymoon. The Luxe Calistoga seems fantastic, but since we are from the midwest- it is really hard to judge a book by its cover. Is the Luxe Calistoga near dainty shops and unique attractions? Are there local wineries and wine trails near the Luxe? Any critics and or suggestions would be great! We are hoping to make our first visit to California via the Napa Valley, but since it is our first time we are entirely uncertain of what to expect!

Calistoga is famous for its spas and mudbaths. Many people try to stay at places that have thermal facilities for treatments. Of course, many people also stay in Calistoga to explore the nearby wineries and enjoy the old town, western feeling of the area.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dainty shops" but if shopping is that important then maybe St. Helena or Yountville would be better. Or, maybe some place like Carmel.

I'm not familiar with the Luxe but it seems to be very highly rated. If you are looking for someplace larger with a good restaurant and spa facilities, Solage has gotten some great writeups in national magazines lately.

A lot of those reviews are from one time reviewers. There's only one reviewer who posted pics. The other photos are from their website. The website doesn't have good photos of full rooms. They draw your attention to a few details--like the table with a vase and a stack of books. The floor in the King rooms looks suspiciously like laminate.

Yelp! has reviewers that do more then one shot reviews- check it out- seems like a pretty good spot. www.yelp.com/biz/luxe-calistoga-calistoga

And yes, Calistoga has quaint little shops, coffee places, restaurants and wineries all along the main road. If I didn't live in downtown Napa, I'd live in Calistoga. The views are beautiful.

It was once the Garnett Creek Inn-- if that helps.

We haven't seen it since the changeover.

PS We're with Supercilious: If you're into "dainty", Calistoga might be a bit too rustic for you. We *love* it, but it def has a wild west feel to the whole town-- and the spas are NOT Scottsdale/Hawaii type places-- they're much more simple/basic/rustic. You need to know what you're getting into. If you like rustic and wild-west-y, you'll prolly love Calistoga. But if dainty and "luxe" (ie, 5 star luxury) are your thing, then either Solage, Auberge, or places in Carmel might be more to your liking. We don't know you, so we're not sure- -we'd just hate for you to come and have a crummy honeymoon!!! :)

We are merely hoping for something that is relaxing, with unique treasures. We chose to avoid inclusive resorts and cruises. We are hoping to have a warm and beautiful place to rest in, travel some wineries, and make simple day trips if we are hoping something outside of the nearby town. It is sort of a hope for us to have a small town to walk around, shop, and to dine in the local area- Thank you any and all for any updates, advice, and suggestions! we are attracted to the nearby forests, parks, and various little spots.

Hi!

We live here in Calistoga. The proprietors of Luxe are great guys. The B&B is wonderfully decorated. (Checkout the awesome floors!)

The town is not slick and chic, but it has a genuine character -- not chain stores or strip malls --the quaintness is not artificial; it's authentic. It has a Michelin star restaurant (SolBar) and several other very fine restaurants. In May the bicycling weather should be very good, the wineries and tasting rooms (within one block) are terrific -- world class, even -- you can walk through the whole town and see historic buildings and summer cottages from the early 20th century. There are several wonderful spas in town with everything from facials to mudbaths to massage and the authentic hotspring water. You can have peace and quiet or you can dance to live music at the Hydro on Friday and Saturday or swing music on Sunday, enjoy the local color at the Calistoga Inn down the street... in fact, most everything is down the street. Makes for simple and luxurious vacation. We'd say yes to Luxe as well as many other accommodations in town.

Best wishes on a very happy marriage!!
