Calistoga hiking

We will be staying in Calistoga next week for 2 nights and I'm hoping to get a nice hike in while we are there. Any suggestions for a mild hike to enjoy the scenery and a possible view?

Thank you.

I thhink your best bet is to ask your innkeepers.....who will have much more knowledge on the local area than we do.

The stellar hike of the area is up to the summit of Mount St. Helena, but it’s very arduous and will take most, if not all of a very long day. However, there’s another hike with fantastic, panoramic views from along the Palisades Trail. The Palisades are the striking rock formations above Napa Valley as you look east. You can choose to walk only a couple of miles or longer and will have absolutely beautiful views over the valley. Read more about the Palisades Trail in this SF Gate article: www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi…

The Bothe-Napa Valley State Park (www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=477) is also a pretty area to hike in. You’ll have some glimpses of the mtns, but mostly the trails go thru forest and so there are no panoramic views that I know of. Bothe-Napa Valley Park is about midway bet. the towns of Calistoga and St. Helena.

Much will depend upon the weather when you're visiting. It's currently quite icy and you'll want to be sure and check on trail conditions before you head out. Puter is right--for hiking info., your innkeeper will have some good advice and suggestions. You can also check with the Calistoga Chamber of Commerce/Visitors Bureau (www.calistogachamber.com).
