Visiting Cambria - end of December

We are planning to visit Cambria around the end of this year.

Any suggestions on what the feel of the place & coastline is around that time of the year ?

A lot will depend on the weather. Cambria has one of those coastlines that lends itself to dramatic wave activity when storms are passing through. December can run from very cold to mild/moderate. Definitely suggest getting a hotel room with a fireplace. Even if the days are on the warmer side, it will cool off at night and a cozy fire will make your evenings comfortable.

As far as activities, anything is possible. Hearst Castle tour, wine tasting in nearby Paso Robles wine country, elephant seal rookery, a visit to Morro Bay and/or Big Sur and just hanging around town and enjoying Cambria's unique shops. Don't miss Seeker's art glass gallery or Cambria Nursery on the hill above the East Village.

Cambria has some excellent restaurants: Black Cat Bistro, Robin's, Wild Ginger, Madeline's, Main Street Grill, Moonstone Bar & Grill, Sow's Ear, Mustache Pete's, Las Cambritas.

The Tea Cozy is a quaint little tea house in Cambria where you could enjoy lunch, it is right across the street from Linn's Easy As Pie Cafe. I would not miss a visit there to check out their ollalieberry goodies. We love spending time at Moonstone Beach in Cambria. There are boarded walking paths that run along the ocean, also. This is a great place to catch a sunset. Enjoy your time at the coast! :)

If you are planning a visit to Hearst Castle, it would be a good idea to reserve in advance...especially if you want to take an evening tour. The Castle is decorated spectacularly for the holidays and the last two weeks of December is a busy time. You can check it out at www.hearstcastle.com

If you visit Morro Bay, and the weather is in your favor, you can rent a kayak and paddle around the inner harbor which is protected from the open ocean. Dorns is a great place for creamy-rich clam chowder. Also, you can head north from Cambria and stop at old San Simeon village and have lunch at Sebastions General Store, which has been there since the late 1800s. It's set in a nice cove and has an outdoor patio - two people can share their ample sandwiches. Have a great visit!
