Sealife in August

We have a trip planned to the west coast in August this year, taking in Cambria. I keep seeing loads of photos of seals/otters on the beach, the question is am I likely to see these in August?! Daughter would love them!

You can usually see sea otters in the surf at Leffingwell Landing off of Moonstone Beach Drive in Cambria.

As for the elephant seals.... they're more prevalent winter/spring, but there are always some seals on the beach near the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse, regardless. That beach is approx. 12 miles north of Cambria, but a pretty easy and scenic drive to make.

Thanks for the reply. We'll be coming from the north so will check out the beach you mentioned. We could always visit Monterey aquarium if not successful!

Another place you're likely to see otters year-rounds is just south of the rock in Morro Bay, which is about 25 minutes south of Cambria. They wrap themselves in the kelp close to the rocks that line the channel in and out of the harbor. You can park in the dirt parking area and see them easily (assuming they're not out feeding when you go). Bring a pair of binoculars.
