Need Immediate planning help

We could use your immediate assistance in planning a trip to CR. We spent 28 days on our own tour in March/April, but we did not make it further north in the Pacific area than Playa Junquillal and Monteverde. Now, my company is taking us to the Four Seasons Papagayo, Dec. 12-15, and we will stay one week to explore northwest CR. Would you be able to help?

We are two adults, pretty fit and able to do most every adventure, 19 year old boy, girls 9 and 8 and a boy 3. We want Rincon de la Vieja, zipline, water safari (maybe white water for me and 19yr old), seeing lots of animals, waterfalls, swimming maybe some horseback riding. We are comfortable staying in a condo, and taking day trips, or moving to 2 or 3 hotels during the week of December 15-22.

We would need transport from Four Seasons on 15th, all transport during week, return to Liberia for 12/22 flight, departs at 1:15.

Would you have some ideas for how to plan that week, where to stay and for transport?

For transport, your best bet is to rent a car. This will give you the most freedom and flexibility. It's a busy time of year, so you might have trouble finding a car from a good agency - but try Vamos, Solid, Service, Toyota, National, Budget.

Otherwise, you can arrange to go on organized tours or arrange a private driver. ($$) You can do this online or through the Four Seasons.

Here are some things to do - so much better with your own car:

1. Do the One Day Adventure Pass at Guachipelin. www.guachipelin.com

2. Visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park for hiking, volcano, waterfalls, hot springs, mud pots, etc.

3. Go horseback riding, fishing or boating

4. Visit Santa Rosa National Park and see the old farmstead known as "La Casona" - now a museum - it figures prominently in Costa Rican history. There are several nearby trails to choose from and one longish trail ends at a deserted beach.

5. Visit El Viejo Wetlands and take a boat tour through Palo Verde National Park http://www.elviejowetlands.com/

6. Take the boat to Witch's Rock for surfing or just visiting a beautiful beach.

7. Visit the town of Guatil where you can see authentic Chorotega pottery being made.

8. Head to the Tenorio National Park for the hike to the Rio Celeste.

9. Go to Llanos del Cortes waterfall. Huge waterfall with small swimming area. There are often monkeys in the trees overhead.

10. Visit Las Pumas Wildlife Rescue Center in Canas where you can see all sorts of animals, including big cats.

11. Arrange a sailing trip with the Sea Bird or Marlin del Rey out of Playas del Coco. Snorkeling or just a quiet sunset cruise.

12. Take a whitewater rafting trip on the Tenorio River or a float trip on the Corobici River. www.rinconcorobici.com

13. Take a whitewater rafting trip on the Cucaracho River riostropicales.com/index.php/…cucaracho-river
