Casinos

We will be in Carlsbad in Feb. Last time, we enjoyed travelling to the different casinos. Our favorite was Valley View with the amazing lobster buffet. Are there any other casinos you would recommend that are worth the drive?

I like all the casinos in SD.

From Carlsbad the northern ones are the easier ones to get to probably like Harrah's Rincon and Pala. I think both are great.

Further south, Viejas has a nice outlet mall attached to it, Barona is in a beautiful valley and Sycuan has done a great remodel job.

Well, you have a couple of main loops, the one east of Carlsbad starts with the Pechanga Casino at the north end in Temecula, and then heading south in a loop, Pala (quite large with good food choices), Casino Pauma (smaller casino with less food options, but good deals), Harrah's Rincon and the Valley View.

The other main loop in San Diego County would be Barona, Viejas and Sycuan. I like Viejas for its outlets center next door, and Sycuan has the best food options, IMHO, This area is in the south east corner of San Diego County.

Make sure and sign up for the free slot clubs, as most casinos will give you some free play or other perk to have you sign up.

What is the Lucky Lobster Buffet at Pala on Tues & Thurs like? Is it better or worse than Valley View?

I can't really compare the two because Valley View has just reopened after an updating and I haven't been.

The food at both is good, on a par with many in Las Vegas, but neither would top the best LV buffets, but then again, they are not as expensive either.

Before the remodel (at Valley View) I liked the room at Pala better. I am looking forward to seeing what Valley View has done.
