It is not dangerous BUT it is about 3miles and with luggage I wouldn't do it. I fyou don't want to pay for a taxi(which would not be expensive $2.35 +$2 and change per mile.)There is an inexpensive bus that connects the airport terminals with downtown. Also if you take the ferry across the bay to Coronado ;you will then have a walk to the hotel. I think you should splurge fo r ataxi BUT if you don't want to here is th elink to our public transportation system. www.sdcommute.com

You would not even want to walk that distance. It's much too far to walk, especially if you have luggage and it is not easy to get our of the airport complex as a pedestrian.

I would just suck it up and pay for a taxi at the airport. With a good tip it will cost you about $35.

There are so-called Shuttles that are cheaper from the airport. One is based in Coronado and they can meet you on the curb at the airport.

Here's links from the airport website for shuttles. Cloud 9 is a pretty big company.

Off Airport Service

Shuttle vans and buses operated by off-airport companies are a popular and convenient transportation option. Shuttle service is available at the Transportation Plazas across from Terminals 1 and 2, and curbside at the Commuter Terminal.

From Terminal 1 you must cross the skybridge, and take either the escalators or the elevators to street level. From Terminal 2, cross the Terminal 2 skybridge and take either the escalators or the elevators to street level, or use the pedestrian crosswalk conveniently located outside the Terminal 2 Baggage Claim Area to access the Transportation Plaza. A Transportation Coordinator will place you with the first available shuttle, unless you specify a particular shuttle company.

The guide below lists shuttle companies frequently used by travelers. Call directly or use the Web links to find the shuttle that best suits your needs. Policies, services and rates are subject to change and may vary based on destination, passengers and number of stops.

Did you ever make it to Coronado? There is also a water taxi-ferry that services San Diego Harbor. You can go from Harbor Island, right across the street from the airport, to Coronado for $7- per person.

Call 619-235-taxi. http://www.sdhe.com/san-diego-water-taxi.html

I hope your trip went well... and ignore those people who think you need a taxi if it's more than 2 blocks!!

;-)
