Whale watching in February?

Planning our first California road trip and as landlocked Missourians, we are very anxious to see the Pacific coast. I am most excited to see the migrating whales. Will they be around Dana Point the second week of February, and if so, can we book a tour during that time of year? Or would we be better off seeing them farther north or south of Dana Point? Thanks for any info you can provide.

If staying near Dana Point, might as well use their options. In mid February, you have a good chance of seeing a Gray Whale.

Here is a list of what has been seen in the past by one of the companies based in Dana Point.

But the San Diego area has options, as does Newport Beach and Long Beach all within and hour or so drive from Dana Point.

Another option in Dana Point is Capt Dave's. They have a boat with underwater viewing pods.

Thanks for info. I was looking at Capt. Dave's. Excellent reviews and the underwater viewing pods would be amazing!
